A question just crossed my mind.  Do you have to do anything special if you plan on using a carbine stock with a full length/standard (whatever) gas system?  Different springs in the buffer tube?  Or are they interchangable?

Alright, I just remembered this thread. I read it a couple days ago and I guess I just forgot to reply haha. I must say Barry, this is an insanely informative and easy to use thread! I will definately be using this when I build my commie friendly lower. Now, how about that video Wink. Not sure you would need it after this, but what the hell, why not  Tongue ?

Because it's hard to hold a video camera and build a gun at the same time.  Tongue

It was hard enough getting some of the still pictures I got, so consider yourself lucky you have what you have.

Yeah, but then the finished product wouldn't be exactly how I'd want it.  I could edit the film and everything, but that's just too much work.  As it is, it took a shitload of time to put together what I've got here.

My first time dealing with the internals of an AR-15, and I have to thank you Recoil for your pictures. Several of the pins Anvil Arms uses in their kits seemed awful tight (as in, hammering instead of tapping them into holes), but so far life's good.

And that creature who keeps trying to invade my pics...

He has an intense fascination with the mostly-assembled-lower. Methinks he's a gun dog.  Wink

Tight pins aren't anything to be concerned with.  You will encounter that often enough if you assemble a lot of new lowers with new parts kits, no matter what brand you go with for both.  They will break in through use.

Good looking start for a nice rifle.  Smiley

I had no idea it was as easy as it is.  How much money can I save buying it in pieces?

On the average, an AR15 runs about $1100 for a 16" DPMS at most retailers. You can build an AR15 for less than $700. I've always felt that assembling a rifle (about an hour and a half's work tops) to save $400 was well worth it. Plus, you can add custom parts yourself, once you get assembling them down.No finding a gunsmith to do what you could do for yourself for free.

This is a very good write-up, Recoil.  So where is the step-by step for assembling uppers?  Wink
