I had a reasonably fruitful trip to the Syracuse Gun show getting the necessary components (both new and used) to build a 5.56/.223 Vvarmint type upper. I even found a 4 rail freefloat tube ! Wow, twice this year I got out of the shop during daylight hours!

I ran out of floppy discs (my interface for my Sony Mavica camera), so I'll pick up some today. Then, I can start my short but sweet tutorial on assembling a simple AR upper. I'll make a separate post.

Did you ever get a chance to do a write-up, Jeff?

Just one note on the build instructions.  I don't know which is the proper way, but I think the disconnector spring goes in the other direction than you have shown when you assembled it.  It doesn't seem to fit as well.  When put in the other way, the spring sort of locks into the trigger, and the disconnector moves more smoothly.

The flared portion of the spring should press fit into the trigger.

I've been meaning to mention that also.  i had my son-in-law follow the directions awhile back and he had troubles getting the trigger pin in - i traced it back to an upside down disconnector spring.

So how many people here are going to be tearing apart their lowers to fix the disconnector spring tonight? Tongue

I broke my dads down last week because he was having a lot of light primer strikes, only to find that he had installed his hammer spring up side down. Roll Eyes

And yeah, I put in the disconnector spring the right way Wink

If I remember right, I recently read that Jeff's still rounding up the parts. Don't quote me.

Edit:

This is the upper I was going to do my demo how-to on building an upper, but I've decided it would be more comprehensive to build a typical upper with two piece hand guards. I'm assembling the pieces for that currently, and should have the rest of what I need after the 'Cuse gun show on the 18th &19th. I got my camera working again, finally.

10-4 Moose, thanks for the update.  I must have missed that wherever it was posted, I remember him posting about the Syracuse show being a zoo though.

No AR parts at the 'Cuse gunshow. They dried up by the time I got there Saturday. Everything anyone had of value was gone by 3pm. I'm going to try and get some pieces from the internet. Maybe Model 1 or Sherluk. Blackthorn has parts, but they may not have all I need. It will come soon if I have to strip down an upper and reassemble it. I'm loathe to do so, but if I can't find some stuff soon...

Jeff, I have been looking for upper parts for a while...they be scarce.  If anyone has parts, its only one or two and combined with shipping it is cost prohibitive to order for 3, 4, or 5 different internet vendors  Angry

After years of building different rifles, I have some stuff around. I need a stripped carrier, an upper receiver, and a barrel - stripped or otherwise. I really don't care what I build, as long as it shoots afterwards. I have a 7" barrel in 5.56 with a matching free float handguard, but I think it would be a better write-up if it was a standard rifle or carbine barrel, plus I could unload it for a bit of profit when done. I still would like to build a pistol caliber AR carbine, but those parts ran out of sight for price. But, I digress. Worst comes to worst, I can diassemble an upper and post pics of reassembly.
