Bit of a stretch to compare a rail system that works to a sight system that often doesn't, no?

I think he is exaggerating the comparison to help clarify the point about his clarification.....  Wink

Yes, indeed.  It's not a stretch if you don't miss the point.  Wink Grin

I still don't see the point in supressing anything larger than a 22  Huh

Less recoil, less flash, less noise.....  Seems like a good idea to me.   Wink

Not really less noise.

Actually, it's a lot less noise.  Noise reduction can be 50 to 90 dB, depending on the can.

I don't know exactly what the noise level is for various calibers in various guns, but just take a .22 for example.  If a .22 is +60 dB and you get a -60 dB can, then it's completely quiet.  If a .308 is +120 dB and you get a -60 dB can, then it's the same SPL as a .22 LR without a can, which is a definite advantage.

Less bark, less or no flash, more bearable with imperfect positions and/or hearing protection. I've heard a couple on a couple different guns, and I like 'em. Some calibers don't take well to being suppressed, others do. I like what they do to carbine-length ARs in 5.56.

Moose, thanks for the vids. I'm not doubting that the man can build cans; I'm just don't know what the price of admission is. <$600 is an accessory, >$600 is a new rifle...

>$600 is a new rifle...

That can is more than $600, and I believe it's well worth it, despite not having one myself (can't own in MN). Whether that expense is justified is solely in the eyes of the buyer, so you need to decide for yourself what's acceptable. To me, the price is well worth it if it allows me to safely shoot without hearing protection, and moreso, shoot without bugging the neighbors. Keep in mind with a can, if you're going to buy, buy once, because if you have to buy twice or more, you're out another $200 tax stamp....

Regarding the handguard talk we had on page 3 and 4, Midwest Industries has a couple new free float handguards out. Here's one...

And the T Series lightweight 4 rail...

Moose: Those new Midwest handguards look fantastic, I'm really itching to try one out on something soon. Midwest's quad rails are outstanding for the money too, they beat YHM's all to shit in terms of quality as well.

I'm running a Midewest 4 rail on one of my middies, and will buy another Midwest (a free float this time) for the next build. Their customer service has been awesome, as well.

When I bought the MI 4 rail for my 14.5 middy, Bravo Co sent it with the triangle adapter rather than the round adapter that I needed, and didn't specifiy and option. I sent MI and email asking to buy the correct adapter, and they just sent it to me with new hardware, for free. Even after I mentioned paying for it, the guy asked for address, and I had it in the mail 3 days later. Good stuff.

I do like the new lightweight tube and the lightweight 4 rail. I think I'll be using the lightweight 4 rail (the 9 inch "T" model) on my next build.
