Would anyone here be able to recommend a 20 round Ruger Mini 14 magazine? I've read around the net that the rather expensive Ruger factory mags are the only way to go, but I wasn't sure if anyone has any experience with any other magazines for the Mini.

From time to time you can find them in the garbage...Because that's where smart people put a Mini-14.  Wink

Well, I don't see the point in throwing a gun in the trash that goes bang everytime, shares ammo with rifles in my (and many other's) gun cabinet, and isn't costing anything. Nothing wrong with having a couple mags on hand in a pouch to make it a spare, loaner, or hand-me-down.

Yeah, I don't know that I'd get non-Ruger mags.  The only alternatives are the cheapos, and if you get those, then you turn a gun that goes bang every time into a "sometimes gun."

I've had a few cheap mags over the years and they typically suck.  It's pretty frustrating when you're shooting then all the sudden your gun quits working...So you drop the mag to see what's up and all the ammo inside flies out and falls on the ground.  You will certainly say some choice words, and your range trip wont be nearly as fun.  Of course, you're betting the mags will fail at the range and not when you absolutely, positively need them to work...

The price of owning a dog like a Mini-14 is being stuck with Ruger stuff.  Just gotta suck it up, Amigo.  Sorry. Undecided

I might be tempted to get a Mini 14 if I can find one for $150 at a yard/estate/whatever sale, just to see what, if anything, can be done to get the thing to run.

Not owning one, the only magazines that I have heard of working well with Ruger rifles are Ruger magazines. Just don't drop them. If they're all like 10/22 mags, they don't like that.  Shocked

Yeah, likewise.  But there's no way I'll pay AR prices for one.

A couple years after the '94 AWB I picked up a bunch of triple K mini-14 mags.
They are not all junk. But 1 of the 6 would not feed no way no how.

And I seriously question the reliability of the rest. While good enough for the range, I have since picked up some factory mags for if my life depended on it.

I have 2 mini-14s. Not the best but, better than swinging a club.
(I'd hand them out first before ARs.... Tongue)
